What is a PCAP file?

PCAPNG (PCAP Next Generation) an extended version of PCAPs which captures more data and is more flexible.

RANT: I feel like adding "NG" to the end of a thing is like adding "Final" to the end of a document.
I pity the future network engineers who have to open "PCAPNNNG_SuperNew_ReallyLatestThisTime" files.
